Apple Corps loses court case

The Beatles' Apple Corps label lost its court case with Apple Computer this week, after claiming that iTunes conflicted with a trademark agreement inhibiting the computer brand from entering the music business, which was agreed in 1991. A High Court judge ruled that Apple Computer's use of its logo on its iTunes download service is associated with retail activity rather than with music, and was not in breach of the agreement. Design Coucil due to name new Council members

The Design Council is set to name its new Council members this week. Among the organisation's influx of new advisors are Barclays marketing director Jim Hytner, former Selfridges chief executive Peter Williams, former head of policy at 10 Downing Street Geoff Mulgan, Nesta chief executive Jonathan Kestenbaum and Ascot Racecourse commercial director Janet Walker.

James Purnell has been replaced as the Minister for Creative Industries and Tourism by Shaun Woodward, the MP for St Helens South. Woodward, who reports to Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell, has a remit to cover 'broadcasting, the creative industries, including film and music, tourism, alcohol and entertainment licensing, press and censorship, IT and e-government'.
