An exhibition of photographs, original drawings, furniture and artefacts can be seen at The Art Nouveau of Riga. The Latvian capital produced a wealth of Art Nouveau buildings around the turn of the last century. A lecture by Janis Krastins of the University of Riga will take place on 29 September.

Freelance illustrator Ian Wright aims to capture the essence of jazz music and to convey a sense of reverence with illustrations of jazz legends Charles Mingus (shown left) and Dexter Gordon. The pictures appear on the covers of two new British Film Institute documentary videos. 'By using illustrations rather than photographs the BFI has broken the mould of this type of documentary. The form better captures the hipness and excitement of the music,' says Wright.

Funny goings on at the Aurora project

The first is a large packing crate marked 'CLIFF RICHARD'. Fans of the noble popster may have noted his quiet public profile of late. We now know where he's hiding.

Howell joins Rufus Leonard

Rufus Leonard has appointed Steve Howell as creative director, initially responsible for its BT, Andersen Consulting and Yellow Pages accounts. He took up his position on Monday, working alongside existing creative directors Darrel Worthington and Louise Jordan.Howell has worked with Rufus Leonard for two years as a consultant. Prior to that he was design manager at BAA.
