...risking a big backlash from the general public...
17 September
Good on Lambie-Nairn for taking a stand on the Greater London Authority logo tender (News, DW 3 September). This is despicable behaviour on the part of the GLA and really shows a lack of respect for and an understanding of the creative community, in spite of its importance as an industry to the UK and London.

Crossing boundaries
Mon, 21 Sep 2009
A few years ago, illustration was almost a forgotten art, says Pascal Johanssen - a state of affairs he wanted to change when he set up the Illustrative exhibition in Berlin. ‘There was a huge gap in the applied arts and illustration scene, with a well-established art market on the one hand and the design market on the other,’ he says. Inspired, Barney Rodgers, Bureaux
17 September
When and where does inspiration come from? Is it a colour, a thought, a person, a sound, or probably all of these things combined? For me, it was all about being at the right place at the right time - specifically, the late 1970s at a club called Eric’s. This was a music club in Mathew Street, Liverpool, and became one of the top Punk venues in the country.

Is the London logo free-pitching debate opening up design...
17 September
There are two points that are missing from the debate over the Greater London Authority logo tender (News, DW 3 September). First - it levels the playing field. Too many times only elite consultancies are asked to submit designs for public works. The GLA bake-off enables anyone - of any background - to submit their design. In that way, it is a spin-off of the London 2012 site that asked for logo submissions (after the launch of Wolff Olins’ controversial identity).
