Your recent Comment (DW 31 July) argues that 'design can help to save the world once practitioners fully grasp the importance of sustainability and the role they can play in promoting it', and notes the effect it could have had in the disputed US presidential elections in 2000. David Mellor's cutlery

A reintroduction of David Mellor's cutlery and silver - originally designed for British embassies - is to be unveiled at 100% Design, at London's Earls Court, SW5, from 18-21 September. The collection - Embassy - won a Design Council award after Mellor was approached to make it by the Ministry of Public Building and Works in 1963.

Simply Cornish

Absolute has designed branding and packaging for a new luxury biscuit brand called Simply Cornish. Owned by Cornish bakery chain Warrens, the biscuits contain local ingredients including clotted cream and honey mead wine. The packaging offers serving suggestions such as 'Why not crumble me over ice-cream'. Warrens briefed the consultancy to create a brand that could compete with existing heritage brands such as Furniss.

Taschen will next month release a packaging design title, exploring the work of consultancies from around the world on food, beverages, pharmaceutical, beauty, luxury and electronics brands, including Apple and De Beers. Package Design Now! is a trilingual English, German and French reference book, designed by Cologne-based design consultancy Sense/Net. It will be available from 1 September.
