Environmental design group C21 has designed a website for the Geneva World AIDS conference. 'The site gathers a number of fun images together: the Ken and Barbie dolls and the heart emphasise the positive aspects of sexual relationships,' says C21 senior consultant Adam Garfunkel. Elsewhere a monkey is used to stress the value of communication, while stars convey the European dimension. The conference runs from 28 June-3 July.

Design should be both creative and effective

Design has long laid a claim to creativity. Now everyone's at it. With the Government still flying the flag for Creative Britain and Culture Secretary Chris Smith publishing a book on the subject, the notion of creativity is being challenged - and rightly so. As I have said in this column before, creativity is about thinking and innovation and is as much the province of scientists and management gurus as of those of us in advertising and design.

'Just make up the worst things you can possibly imagine. They're probably true,' she says.
