5 emerging illustrators to look out for

Alongside the big names at this year’s London Illustration Fair will be dozens of emerging talents handpicked by judges.

A panel including designer Camille Walala, illustrator Malika Favre and director of House of Illustration Colin Mckenzie have selected the Accepted Artists.

Among them are illustrators, designers, publishing houses, collectives, print studios and design businesses.

Here are five who caught our eye.

Fly Chen

The glorious technicolor world of Fly Chen is a wholly psychedelic and saturated experience full of detail and surprise.

You can find animal, self-portrait and portrait sections on her site as well as a rather mind-bending section called “Wonderland”.

Cristina BanBan

Cristina BanBan likes to play with the human form – her work seems to have an eastern influence and she has captured all sorts of voluptuous characters in her portfolio.

She lives and works in London and is from Barcelona, where she graduated from the University of Barcelona in 2010.

Hoxton Mini Press

You may have noticed Hoxton Mini Press publications appearing across Design Week in recent years. Its strapline “Collectable books about East London” sums the whole thing up; a small design-led cottage industry publisher which has worked with some great illustrators and photographers.

Aga Giecko

Aga Giecko is a UAL Camberwell illustration undergraduate and has a small portfolio of work, which has a beautifully innocent and painterly quality to it.

She paints draws and illustrates and does a good line in expressive-looking animals.

Claudine O’Sullivan

Illustrator Claudine O’Sullivan is already quite well-established, having been commissioned by the likes of MTV, WeTransfer and Tiger Beer.

Her bold use of colour and thick line style in animal drawings are a recent personal trope, but she has a broad portfolio and has experimented with other techniques.

The London Illustration Fair takes place from December 4-6 at Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, SE1.
