  • Aukett creates Boots stores

    8 October 1998

    Design and architecture group Aukett Associates has been appointed by Boots the Chemists to design and implement five concept stores. The sites cover more than 19 000m2 of selling space.The group declines to comment on details of the project due to confidentiality clauses, says an Aukett Associates spokeswoman.A Boots spokeswoman confirms the retailer is working with Aukett, but declines to comment on the location of the stores, or on what elements they will contain.

    Lighting designer Sophie Chandler's sculpture stands in the reception area of the British Gas headquarters in Staines. The piece, which is called Future, is constructed from gas pipes, cables and light bulbs and was commissioned to celebrate the company's entry into the electricity market last month. Chandler, who founded Alternative Light studio in south London, works in recycled materials.

    While your idea of a really perfect night might not involve TV hypnotist Paul McKenna, the celebrity is hoping differently. Last week saw the launch of Perfect Night, a hypnosis machine designed to induce sleep by playing messages from McKenna along with mood music. Those who succumb will be woken the next morning by McKenna's voice. Design group Opius developed the product for manufacturer Rio in eight weeks.

    Delia Smith's latest cookery series has a 25-second title sequence designed by Mike Ellis at Ortmans Young International. The graphics combine filmed food images with the celebrity chef's hand-written cookery notes. The sequence goes live on BBC1 on Tuesday.

    Frazer Designers has deliberately made this heart monitor, for start-up client Cardionetics, look like a Sony Disc-man to give it consumer appeal and technological authority. Frazer principal consultant Jonathan Knight says the group has also gone to great lengths to make it comfortable, since the device is strapped to the body, often for periods of 24 hours or more. The heart monitor will launch next month and is aimed principally at GPs.

Last month annual report specialist Addison repositioned itself, broadening its offer by forming partnerships with other corporate communications groups. Now Pauffley tells us it has been forging links with other agencies for some time (see News, page 5), and other consultancies for which annual reports form a key part of the workload are rumoured to be following suit.
