Polydor Records band Bright Eyes is releasing its debut album for the label next week, showcasing a unique piece of stereogram design, which a spokeswoman for the label claims is a first for a music release.

The sleeve artwork for Cassadaga features illustrations by Zac Nipper at Saddle Creek – Bright Eyes’ label in the US – which can only be read by the accompanying ‘spectral decoder’, created by 3D Images in the UK. When placed over the mottled grey cover, a series of ‘ghostly’, shimmering images are revealed.

According to Polydor senior product manager Annabelle Scott-Curry, the idea came from band singer and songwriter Conor Oberst.

The album comes in three formats – Digipack, heavyweight vinyl and standard CD – and is released on 9 April.
