An Illustrated Food Journal
Thanks to the likes of Instagram, Twitter and some rather self-involved (and hungry) anti-social diners, journaling our eating habits in pictures is nothing new.
And while it’s easy to rail against every Tom, Dick and Harry who posts up yet another picture of their #cronut or some other confection, it’s a pleasure to see the food illustrations in this gorgeous new book from Stephanie Odu.
Her Illustrated Food Journal delineates the story of her travels in space and food through South America, ‘seeing new places, encountering new people and best of all, trying new foods’.
Odu lives and works as an art director and illustrator in London, and says she draws inspiration – perhaps unsurprisingly from this endeavour – ‘from people, chance encounters, travel and food.’
Each page of the cute little volume is dedicated to a different foodstuff, meal of place, weaving a story of Odu’s travels through hand-drawn maps, illustrations and helpful language hints.
Advice such as ‘what to do if you happen upon a yuca’ (‘Cook it, of course!’, we’re breathlessly urged) peppers the book.
The book is stitch-bound and Risograph printed on recycled paper.
