Architects Draw Up London Grid System

New York and Barcelona were built on grid plans – a city planning system which goes back to Roman and Hellenic times.

London’s organised chaos, constructed over millennia, doesn’t know such order, but The City, or Square Mile will soon be made into an imagined grid, divided into 100 squares, each of which will be the focus for an architect to draw their favourite view of The City.

The 10×10 Drawing The City project has been initiated by charity Article 25  which designs, builds and manages projects to provide shelter in places blighted by disaster, poverty or need.

Architects signed up for the project include Lord Norman Foster, Will Alsop, Sir Terry Farrell, Angela Brady, Sir Jeremy Dixon, and TV presenter Kevin McCloud.

An auction is now set so the works can be sold with all profits going to Article 25.

A preview of the 10×10 Drawing The City collection will be held on 30 November and the auction held on Thursday 1 December at the German Gymnasium, 26 Pancras road, King Cross, London, N1C
