Being/Dreaming
Uniting London and New York, art and science, and ‘being and dreaming’ – the two elements that lend the show its title – KK Outlet’s next show is something of an ambitious one.
The exhibition will present more than 100 works from New York creative agency Hugo & Marie, showing work by 12 of its artists themed around the crossover between art and science.
‘Arts and Sciences are two disciplines that are often thought of as disparate ways of looking at the world, when in fact both incite curiosity and encourage an exploration of the world we inhabit,’ KK Outlet says.
‘Both innovate and encourage different ways of thinking.’
It’s certainly true that this delightful laser-eyed party bear by Mike Perry is refreshingly ‘different’:
As is this foliage-faced fellow, by the imaginative Tom Darracott:
Spanning illustration, painting, weaving and video, the exhibition will feature work by artists including Deanne Cheuk, Tom Darracott, Jules Julien, MVM and Mike Perry.
While there’s a very broad spectrum of style and influences, many artists have looked to science’s more visual motifs, such as anatomy, botany, ecology and geometry to explore its relationship with art.
This intricately-drawn, disquieting forest scene by Micah Lidberg caught our eye, and reminded us of The Magic Book of Nightmares we perused last week with its strange eyeball UFO and eerie shades of purple:
According to the gallery, the work will be displayed ‘salon-style’, coating the gallery walls from floor to ceiling.
Being/Dreaming runs from 5 – 27 April at KK Outlet, 2 Hoxton Square, N1
