Ex-BMW designer Chris Bangle launches car design competition
Car designer Chris Bangle is inviting design students to compete for a chance to have their work featured in his fictional account of the car industry, set 25 years into the future.

Peter Teuful: A Tale of Car Design in Three Parts
Open to students in all areas of design, successful entrants to Illustrate the Future will be designing cars for the prologue of Peter Teuful: A Tale of Car Design in Three Parts, written by former BMW design chief Bangle.

On offer is a €2000 prize or the chance to visit Bangle’s CBA studio in Italy and attend a design workshop with the designer.
Competition winners will also see their work published in the second edition of the ebook series, which tackles Bangle’s concern with the status quo in the culture of car design, something that he sees as inherent for young designers.

In an unlikely move, Bangle will tell his tale through Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, apparently haunting car design with the ghost of its own past, which is in fact the secret to car design as Bangle sees it.
The second book holds a mirror up to the ‘twisted reality’ of what the car design industry is today.
The third and final twist is – yes, you guessed it – the gloomy future facing would-be-car-designers.

The prologue is designed to act as a glowing counterpoint though, set up to bathe the industry in light by featuring some of the work of successful bright young things.
