Mulled wine and murder

East London design studio Cherry is mixing festive fun and frights with its Mulled Wine and Murder map project.

The consultancy, which recently moved to a studio on Curtain Road, has developed a map, to be sent out to clients and contacts, which draws together the history of the East End with modern-day boutiques and pubs.

Sarah Harding, designer at the consultancy, says, ‘We created this to take a look at the widening gap between the poverty-stricken area of old and the modern-day trendy streets and boutiques.

‘It features plenty of sight-seeing, a few of our favourite watering hols and boutique shopping hot-spots, alongside a look at the history of Shoreditch’s slums and gangs.’

The eclectic map pinpoints highlights including the Kemistry Gallery, The Marley Mow pub and - rather less festively - the site of the Jack the Ripper murders.

Harding says, ‘We wanted to produce something Christmassy, but which would last a bit longer than just Christmas-time.’

Cherry is also hosting a walk, next Wednesday, which will see author and London history specialist Ed Glinert lead a tour of the map highlights - including the pubs…
