Conran hotel opens in London
The Conran & Partners-designed South Place Hotel is opening this week in the City of London.
The hotel is the first to be operated by restaurateur D&D London, which runs venues including Quaglino’s and the Blueprint Café at the Design Museum.
The new hotel, will host two restaurants, 3 South Place on the ground floor and the Angler Restaurant on the seventh floor.
It will also feature 80 bedrooms, studios and suites, as well as spa treatment rooms and a ‘secret garden’ atrium bar on the first floor.
Each bedroom will feature handpicked artworks from Hoxton Art Gallery and Jealous Gallery, as well as hand-cast resin pieces from AMD Interior Architects and a welcome box by Studio Conran.
The lift lobby will feature a wall of mechanical pixels and Royal College of Art Ceramics graduate Zemer Peled is creating a sculpture in situ on the ground floor throughout September.
Zemer’s work sees here fire layers of black and white clay before breaking them into thousands of fragments and ‘rebuilding’ them.
