Cutty Sark blended Scotch whisky has put together a touring event that will bring together design, photography, food, drink and music, within an oversized cargo crate.

The show will move on to New York and ‘a city in Spain’ after a London leg which will bring together music photographer Tom Oxley, It’s Nice That and lighting designers Flat-e.

The cargo crate venue, designed by Inkling and SeTwo resembles those used by peddlers to smuggle Cutty Sark whisky to America 90 years ago, according to Cutty Sark.

Oxley, who has shot exclusive material for the event, is exhibiting an intriguing series of ‘moving video portraits’ of musicians, who have selected a soundtrack to accompany the spectacle.

Lighting consultancy Flat-e is creating an immersive light installation which will have a real-time and reactive element. Appearing across the roof top, the piece will be governed by light levels.

It’s Nice That is bringing together a crop of artists who will create works out of ordinary crates live on the night.

One of them is Charlie Patterson who says, ‘My inspiration comes from my love of optical illusions and playing with our visual perception. It is great to be able to turn a flat surface into what looks like it could be three dimensional. These illusions have a much better effect on a larger scale, which is why it is a great opportunity to have multiple crates to decorate that can come together to form a larger illusion in itself’.
