Design Dialogue creates latest New Order look
Design Dialogue has created the identity for a New Order gig at Jodrell Bank, which will feature and be curated by the band.
Transmission 5 is part of the Live From Jodrell Bank: The Transmissions series, which takes place on the site of The University of Manchester’s Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire.
The consultancy, which last week rebranded itself from Studio Parris Wakefield, had worked on artwork for New Order’s tour in 2012.
‘That was the first time Peter [Saville] hadn’t been involved with New Order,’ according to creative director Howard Wakefield, who is the former company director of Peter Saville Studio.
‘For the tour last year we had been creating graphics based on the national flags of the countries they were playing in,’ says Wakefield who wanted to move the design on for the Transmission 5 gig.
Wakefield says he took inspiration from a photograph of Jodrell Bank’s Lovell Telescope, taken part way through the resurfacing of its bowl .
‘We redrew a simplistic version of a radio telescope and made it a bit more New Order by adding extra colour into the strips on the graphic,’ Wakefield says’.
Studio Parris Wakefield re-launched as Design Dialogue last week. This was to mark the joining of Simon Griffin, a second creative director who joins Wakefield and Sarah Parris.
Parris Wakefield Additions, which produces consumer interiors products, continues to be run by Wakefield and Parris.
