Design team sought for £2m Astana Expo 2017 pavilion

UK Trade and Investment is looking for a multidisciplinary design team to work on the British pavilion for the Astana Expo 2017 in Kazakhstan.

The project is valued at £2 million and will see a national pavilion created for the expo, the theme of which is “Future Energy”. The estimated design fee is between £150,000 and £250,000.

UKTI says the pavilion will be sited in an existing building and will comprise a visitor experience with supporting accommodation and facilities.

It says it is looking for a team that can deal with interactive and graphic design as well as architectural design for the pavilion.

The organisers of Astana Expo 2017 say the event will “aim to create a global debate between countries, NGOs, companies and the general public on the crucial question ‘how do we ensure safe and sustainable access to energy for all while reducing CO2 emissions?’”

It will aim to do this by examining issues around reducing CO2 emissions and developing ideas around energy efficiency and making energy available to all.

The Astana event follows the Milan Expo 2017, which featured a UK pavilion designed by Wolfgang Buttress which aimed to be “a symphony between bee and human”.

The deadline for receipt of tenders or requests to participate in the Astana pavilion design competition is 9 May.
