Deutsche Börse Photography Prize shortlist unveiled

Photographers Pieter Hugo, Rinko Kawauchi, John Stezaker and Christopher Williams have been shortlisted for the 2012 Deutsche Börse Photography Prize.

The prize, which is presented every year by the Photographers’ Gallery in London, is an annual award of £3000 for a living photographer of any nationalilty for a specific body of work.

John Stezaker

British photographer Stezaker has been nominated for his exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery, while US-born Williams is nominated for his show Kapitalistischer Realismus in the Czech Republic.

South African Hugo has been nominated for his publication Permanent Error, while Japanese photographer Kawauchi has been nominated for her publication Illuminance.

Brett Rogers, director of the Photographers’ Gallery and chair of the jury, says, ‘Each finalist addresses in a timely way issues of critical importance within contemporary photography.’

Works by the shortlisted artists will be shown in an exhibition at the Photographers’ Gallery next year, and the date for the awards ceremony will be announced at the beginning of 2012.
