Elon Musk’s Hyperloop Technologies has been rebranded as Hyperloop One and is a step closer to making the supersonic 760mph transport system a reality.

The new name sees a refreshed visual identity, which now includes a looped infinity sign within the logotype, making up the “double o” in “Hyperloop”.

The launch of the new name coincided with Hyperloop One’s first public prototype test, which took place in the Nevada near Las Vegas last week.

The prototype was developed by engineers based at an innovation campus in Los Angeles, and a test and safety site in North Las Vegas.

The company has also announced that it has received $80 million (£55 million) in a second round of funding, from a series of investors including French national rail company SNCF.

Hyperloop One is a system that would see pods propelled at high speed through tubes. The proposed transport system would allegedly be able to carry passengers from San Francisco to Los Angeles in roughly 30 minutes.

The system’s first test allegedly saw the super speed transport pod reach 116 mph in 1.1 seconds, reports the Guardian.

The company has also announced its global partnership with a series of companies in fields of transportation, engineering, architecture, construction and station design.

Hyperloop One co-founder Shervin Pishevar says: “Hyperloop One is at the forefront of a movement to solve one of the planet’s most pressing problems. The brightest minds are coming together at the right time to eliminate the distances and borders that separate economies and cultures.”
