FutureBrand has bought Silicon Valley product design firm Speck Design, which has worked for the likes of Google, Apple and Mercedes-Benz.

FutureBrand chief executive Patrick Smith says the acquisition will give FutureBrand “the ability to turn brand strategy into market-defining products and services”.

Speck was founded in 1996 and has worked on projects including the device for the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit for Google.

Its other clients include Audi, Ford, Nike and Panasonic.

FutureBrand says that Speck will retain its name and expand to new premises in San Francisco and Mountain View and will “build on existing and new shared client relationships.”

Speck chief executive Elisa Jagerson will become a member of the FutureBrand leadership team as part of the move.

The Speck acquisition comes after FutureBrand bought digital consultancy Hugo & Cat last year and Dutch retail consultancy UXUS in 2013.

Interpublic Group, which owns FutureBrand, says it has funded these three acquisitions to the tune of $40 million (£28 million).
