Government to scrap PQQ stage in procurement

The Government is understood to be set to scrap pre-qualification questionnaires to make it easier for small and medium-sized companies to apply for Government contracts.

According to reports, Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude is set to scrap PQQs for SMEs as part of an effort to streamline procurement across Government. The Cabinet Office says an announcement is due today.

The coalition Government last year announced an aspiration for 25 per cent of its contracts to be awarded to SMEs, as well as for Government tenders to be published full and free of charge online.

Last year the Associate Parliamentary Design & Innovation Group released a report on public-sector design procurement, which made recommendations including a chief advisor for design to sit at Government level and a best-practice pilot for procurement.
