Graven Images works on Arne Jacobsen’s Copenhagen hotel

Glasgow-based consultancy Graven Images is revamping the public areas of Arne Jacobsen’s Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The 50-year old hotel, which claims to be the world’s first design hotel, appointed Graven Images in 2008 to bring the public areas up to date.

Over the years, the interiors have been victim to ‘some unsympathetic interventions’, such as the ‘clumsy conversion’ of a concession boutique area into a restaurant, says Graven Images in a statement.

‘The focus has been on streamlining and cleaning up the original spaces, rationalising the layout and providing a more appropriate backdrop to showcase the original Jacobsen feature,’ adds the consultancy.

Graven Images is working on the ground and first floors of the hotel, which feature furniture created by Jacobsen specifically for the hotel, including the Swan and Egg chairs.

The revamp will be completed by the end of the year.
