Just my type
Do you want to walk past any billboard, shop sign or church fete poster and be able to identify and divulge the history of the fonts displayed thereon? And would you like to do that without haemorrhaging friends? If double yes, then Just My Type is for you.
This cheeky, amusing little tome by Simon Garfield features all your favourite fonts and tales of their creation, use and abuse. Cue examples: well, I am apparently the last person on earth to know that Eric Gill had sex with dogs and wrote about it, and may have committed incest. That is the one gem from the book that I am going to include, however, as we are not allowed to quote from it because publisher Profile is trying to sell serialisation rights to newspapers. Catch Just My Type in (possibly) The Guardian, or failing that in late October, when it will be published. FYI, the book was designed in-house at Profile by art director Peter Dyer.
Just My Type will be available from Profile Books from 21 October, priced at £14.99.
