RCA architecture, product design and design interaction work-in-progress show

Hot on the heels of the RCA’s interim textile and jewellery design show, next month sees the opening of the college’s architecture, product design and design interaction students’ work in progress exhibition.

The RCA, which recently launched a new 175th Anniversary logo, designed by Neville Brody has produced such glittering alumni as Thomas Heatherwick , James Dyson , Jay Osgerby and the Chapman Brothers . As such, when the exhibition  opens on 1 February, we may well in store to a sneak previews of the next vacuum cleaner maverick, Olympic star or artworld enfants terribles.

The exhibition - entitled Grist! - will present student design concepts and models from over 120 students on the Architecture, Design Products, Design Interactions, Innovation Design Engineering and Vehicle Design programmes, providing a hint at emerging trends, concepts and ideas by students who will be graduating in July.

Sue Bradburn, a spokesperson for RCA, says, ‘The work in progress shows are quite experimental and are a way for students to display work that is in an interim stage of development.’

From what we’ve seen, the works range from a forlorn (and dead) looking bird from the animation course; some rather Bond-like futurist car designs and a range of beautiful interiors products.
