The London International Animation Festival gets underway tomorrow at several cinemas and venues across the capital. It’s the seventh time the festival has been held and it’s the largest one of its kind in the UK, screening more than 250 films by animators from across the globe.

As well as a jam-packed programme featuring work from David Shrigley and Chris Shepherd, Ruth Lingford and Tim Webb, this year’s festival includes a number of specially curated themed events.

Champions of the Scratch film technique - a method where animators scratch directly into film stock - will show examples of their work and discuss how the method had been used throughout animation history. Felix the cat gets a retrospective, French production house Antour de Minuit screens its work as part of this year’s Studio Showcase and there will be a special programme dedicated to Animate TV, a collaboration between Channel 4 and the Arts Council England, which was established in 1990.
