Hot 50: THE HOUSE OF ST BARNABAS
It is rare for a homelessness charity to engage design to an outstanding extent, but the Quintessentially Foundation has done just this for the House of St Barnabas. It established a pop-up club in the heart of London’s Soho last year to attract London’s glitterati, has staged events like a ball and had a book published to raise funds for homeless people.
The club - Quintessentially Soho at the House of St Barnabas - resided in a Grade Ilisted building on Soho Square from mid- September to the end of December 2009. Renovated by Russell Sage Studio, the House of St Barnabas has now become an events venue and will be used as a training facility for the homeless.
In a related move, Start Creative has created collateral for the charity and published a book, Soho Lives, featuring photography by Start team member Catherine Garcia of local celebrities, residents and workers. All proceeds go to the charity.
