HOT 50: VINTAGE AT GOODWOOD

Forget themud, the raving hippies and the stylish Hunter Wellington boots.Festivals in the summer of 2010 were all about polka-dot vintage
dresses, crochet workshops and big bands mixed with burlesque.
Hemingway Design founders Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway presented a creative and visually appealing alternative to the festival throngwith the debut of Vintage at Goodwood.
Located outside the Earl ofMarch’s countryside pad, the Goodwood Estate inWest Sussex, the festival celebrated all that is best about British popular culture.Spanning five decades, fromthe 1940s to the 1980s, thousands of vintage-clad people turned up in their droves to enjoy a mix of fashion, art, music ,design, food, shopping and cinema.
The design-led affair offered the opportunity to connect with people, swap tales of times gone by and see emerging talent. It understandably scooped the best new festival prize at the 2010 UK Festival Awards andwas declared by some to be ’the festival of Britain’.
It is therefore no surprise that Vintage is to take place in July this year as part of celebrations at London’s Southbank Centre tomark the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain. Itwill go on tour following the South Bank showing, with Bristol being a possible host for the event in 2012.
