Identity in Transit

For his upcoming show at The Book Club, German artist and graphic designer Max Strasser has delved into the murky world of Victorian crime to create a series of portraits.

The Identity in Transit exhibition, which opens next year, will feature interpretations of 19th-century police mugshots, recreated in paint or screenprints by Strasser, who works under the name MAST.

The result is an abstracted rogue’s gallery of Victorian thieves, prostitutes and assorted miscreants.

The exhibition will also feature other projects from the artist, including vandalised, ripped and destroyed posters, and further surreal and abstracted images.

Identity In Transit is curated by Liat Chen and is the first major exhibition of works by MAST.

Identity In Transit is at The Book Club, 100-106 Leonard Street, London EC2A from 21 February-5 May 2013.
