50 Manga Chairs, by Nendo

Nendo has designed a series of chairs which take inspiration from the Manga style.

The 50 chairs “adapt the strong symbolic nature of manga comics to furniture design”, says the consultancy.

Adhering to Nendo’s minimalist style, the furniture design creates an “abstract” form of Manga comics by avoiding colour.

In the same way that comics consist of a series of separate frames that form a sequence, the chairs also aim to tell a story when lined up, says Nendo.

Elements such as speech bubbles and effect lines have been incorporated into the furniture design, as well as symbolic forms of human attributes, such as sweat and tears.

The exhibition will be showcased at the Milan Design Fair 2016.
