Carsten Höller’s giant helter-skelter inspired slide at the Anish Kapoor-designed ArcelorMittal Orbit, east London opens to the public today.

The 178m slide comprises thirty sections, and has a silver base and transparent top half.

Starting at the 76m high viewpoint, Höller’s slide spirals round the sculpture’s latticed structure in corkscrew shape before dropping sharply towards the bottom.

During the 40-second descent, riders can expect to travel at speeds of 15mph.
