London Underground inspired cement tiles, by Lindsey Lang

Designer Lindsey Lang has launched a range of embossed cement wall and floor tiles inspired by mid-century designs from the London Underground in collaboration with Transport for London.

Inspiration for the designs came from the TfL archives as well as the work of designers Enid Marx and Harold Stabler, who created patterns for TfL during the 1930s. Lang has reinterpreted two archive designs to offer a modern take on the originals.

Lang says: “This was a brilliant opportunity to push the capabilities of our ancient tile manufacturing process. I worked hard to develop new methods to create a tile that is beautifully three-dimensional.”

Lang also developed a Tube-inspired prints on wood and paper for TfL in 2015.
