Lost Barbara Hepworth photographs, by various
Two new Barbara Hepworth exhibitions have been announced at The Hepworth Wakefield, which explore the work of the sculptor through archive photographs, many of which have never been seen. A Greater Freedom: Hepworth 1965–1975 has just opened and runs until April 2016. It looks at how in her later life she obsessed with invention and reinvention. In the 1950s she was working in bronze, before introducing slate in 1962 and printmaking from 1969. In 1971 she said: “I don’t think anyone realises how much the last ten years has been a fulfilment of my youth.” Meanwhile Hepworth in Yorkshire runs from 16 May-6 September and focuses on her early years growing up in Wakefield and shows family photographs and images from her formative years. Early drawings, paintings and sculpture can also be seen. Both exhibitions take place at The Hepworth Wakefield, Gallery Walk, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, WF1 5AW
