The Post Office is to invite formal tenders for all aspects of design work for its new National Postal Museum.

The existing museum, in the King Edward Building in central London, is to close in December and plans to find an alternative location are already underway.

John Roberts, chief executive of The Post Office, says: “A new centre would show the vital role The Post Office has played dating back 350 years, along with the state-of-the-art technology in use.”

He confirms the new museum will include interactive and communications technology to attract more visitors.

A spokesman for The Post Office says it is too early to know the timescale for the design work.
