Public-sector work is about more than just procurement

I enjoyed reading Gerry Postlethwaite’s article on public-sector procurement, and agree with his views (Business Insight, DW 15 January).

However, design in the public sector should be about social change, improving lives and design for social good.

At Thinkpublic, we work in the public sector because we believe that design can make public services better. We have worked with the NHS to develop a national programme that uses co-design to deliver benefits for patients and staff.

If people stopped worrying about procurement and creativity, and focused on those with real problems, they could see that design can provide real solutions.
