Project managers given even more responsibilties

I wholly agree with Tim Rich’s view of the project manager’s importance to the successful delivery of any design project (Private View, DW 3 July).

However, I would like to add another skill set required in the portfolio of the renaissance project manager – that of print/ packaging technologist.

The delivery of packaging design that is true to the design concept increasingly depends upon the technical skills of the project manager.

Clients have reduced their technical resource over the past ten years and are increasingly reliant on their creative groups and suppliers to provide this invaluable service for them – often on a freeof-charge basis.
