‘Brutal’ treatment for Tokyo Hipsters Club by Tom Dixon

Tom Dixon is poised to unveil design concepts for Tokyo Hipsters Club, a retail, restaurant and private members complex in Japan.

It is the first project undertaken by the world-renowned designer in which he has created all aspects of the development, including the exterior and interior schemes.

The exterior of the complex will look like a concrete bunker, while interiors will be drawn up in a ‘brutal style’. The property is also likely to feature bespoke products and furniture designed by Dixon, such as chandeliers.

The Tokyo Hipsters Club includes a roof garden, restaurant, private club and retail arena. This will feature a Japanese-concept shop selling everything from fashion to homeware and vintage products. The club is scheduled to open next month.

Dixon’s first interiors project was Oliver Peyton’s restaurant Inn The Park. He worked with Farrow Design and Hopkins Architects on its design (DW 29 January 2004).

On Monday, Dixon unveiled his bench installation, in Trafalgar Square, for the opening of London’s Design Festival, made entirely from 12 000 blue rubber bands. It measures 100m long and will snake around tables and chairs (DW 15 September).
