The concept for the Euro ’98 calendar was created by Helmut Langer Design in Cologne, Germany. The calendar, a joint initiative between the European Parliament, European Commission and the European Monetary Institute, features 12 colour illustrations. Each image makes reference to the new Euro currency, which goes into circulation next year. The calendar ends with the phrase The Euro Has Arrived! translated into 11 languages. Helmut Langer worked on the project with his wife Marina Langer-Rosa.

Public reaction to a 1994 concept car has encouraged German car giant Volkswagen to revive a design classic – the Beetle. Design work was led by former VW designer JC Mays, who now works for Ford. Although it retains a distinctly curvy shape the modern bug is an all-new design, and shares no components with the original. North American drivers will take delivery of the first cars later this year, but those in the UK will have to wait until early 1999.
