The books have been designed in a block cyan colour and feature a black title and white author name with a redrawn pelican in flight. (A standing pelican has also been redrawn.)

This animation shows the evolution of the book design, which used to feature a prominent white band.

The five titles are: Human Evolution by Robin Dunbar; Revolutionary Russia 1891-1991 by Orlando Figes; The Domesticated Brain by Bruce Hood; Greek and Roman Political Ideals by Melissa Lane; and Economics: The Users Guide  by Ha-Joon Chang.

Pelican books were first introduced in 1937 and featured a mark created by Edward Young and later retouched by William Grimmond.

The first of set of books will be published in May.
