Things We Like
Our weekly round-up of things we like on the Design Week newsdesk.
A Floating Forest
You’d be forgiven for thinking that the news of Floating Forest coming to the Folly for a Flyover this weekend only made the list because we like alliteration.
However, it’s about so much more than that. For another thing, it’s billed as an ‘immersive aqueous duet of botanical water vessels offering leisure lounging.’
The creation is the inspired idea of Atmos Studio , and claims to offer – get this – ‘an urban slice of English Arcadia; a contemporary edge on rural history, drilled by machine but draped with nature, ready and waiting for the journeys of those who guide and nudge them as they drift across less-charted urban waters.’
Well, we’re sold.
The Forest sails to Folly for a Flyover, in Hackney Wick, London E9, this weekend.

Black Box Boutique’s Beautiful Interiors
last week saw the opening of the sumptuous Black Box ‘curious design boutique’ in Edinburgh, a beautiful little store featuring ‘curious’ illustration, jewellery, textiles and ceramics.
The interiors feature an Edwardian-style display unit, which was created by Board Stupid furniture designers. As well as the stunning fittings, the store features an in-house jewellery studio where you can watch the boutique staff creating their own pieces.
The branding was created by Rydo, and succeeds in making us very curious indeed to see the store in the flesh.
Newborn’s T Shirts
Graphic designer Newborn has worked up his first self initiated product – a t-shirt bearing his It’s Just a T-Shirt design. Very much a painstaking labour of love, he tells us, but ultimately ’It’s Just a T-Shirt’ and there lies a brilliant irony. This – the first of many he says – references all things British and instrumental; best worn a warm rainy day like this. Here’s his website
Its just another design!
