The joy of making
The Makers and Shakers event being held at The Book Club in London will bring together a raft of speakers headlined by Anthony Burrill speaking on the subject of ‘the joy of making and the importance of craft.’
The event has been put together by Flamingo Magazine, purveyors of ‘creativity, community and grassroots culture.’
‘Each of our renowned designers and craftspeople combine old and new methods to bring craft up-to-date, as part of a post-industrial revolution in making,’ according to Flamingo editor Siobhan Leddy.
Designer and letterpress hero Anthony Burrill will be joined by upcycler ‘and all-round magpie’ Jessica Jackson of Jessica Found It, and Matthew Plummer Fernandez who is a 3D printing digital artist.
Also on the bill is Andrew Groves the illustrator and craftsmen behind Miscellaneous Adventures – makers of crafted indoor and outdoor wooden utensils.
Nick Hartwright and Mark Hanlon, founders of Foundation rugs will be talking about how they commission artists to design patterns for collections.
Oliver Geoffroy, the founder and designer of Unto This Last will talk about the theory of his ‘local craftsmans’ workshop at mass production prices.’
