Olympic design

With just a couple of months to go until the 2012 Olympics kicks off in London, the Royal Institute of British Architects is set to present a new look at some of the iconic designs that have been created for the Games.

Design Stories, The Architecture Behind 2012 will present a host of drawings, images, videos and models of projects including Zaha Hadid’s Aquatics Centre and the Olympic Stadium, by Populous.

It will also feature a 14m-long graphic mural displaying all the buildings.

The organisers say, ‘The exhibition will draw back the layers of complex engineering and explore the raw ideas that inspired the architects involved.’

And when the Games begin (that’s 27 July sports fans) the exhibition will transform into a live screening room, where viewers will be able to cheer on the Olympians.

The RIBA is also hosting a separate exhibition, After the Party: The Legacy of Celebration, which will look at previous events, such as the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels, and the architectural legacies that they have left behind.
