With Relish composes new look for Philharmonia Orchestra

With Relish has designed a new communications theme which will lead the Philharmonia Orchestra’s 2011/2012 season and shape the visual direction of future seasons.

The consultancy was appointed on the strength of previous work for the orchestra – based at London’s South Bank – which it has worked with since 2006.

Sarah Hyndman, creative director of With Relish, says the new communications look to show the ’pioneering and experimental’ attitude of the orchestra, defining this through an ’atmospheric’ approach and ’moving away from showing images of instruments’.

The lead image is a ’crashing wave’ photograph by Jo Weinert which Hyndman says, ’Suggests the atmosphere of a live concert; freezing the moment.’

Other elemental black-and-white photographs, which convey sound and scale, will be used in future communications according to Hyndman.
Typographic pull quotes taken from press accolades and patrons of the orchestra accompany the wave image.

The new theme will appear across a brochure, posters and other marketing materials and is expected to roll out later this week.
