Enlightened in Barnsley
While lasers in design are certainly nothing new, a show opening in Barnsley this week looks to showcase the breadth of the creations that can be made using laser cutting and engraving technology.
Juxtaposing this very modern technique with the backdrop of the town’s industrial heritage, the show, entitled Enlightened, invited designers to create any work they wanted, with an open brief in terms of style, concept and materials – as long as the work incorporated laser cutting or engraving technology.
All works were created with laser cutting and engraving firm Cutting Technologies, with the show presented by Barnsley-based consultancy DMSQD.
Kyle Wilkinson, creative director at DMSQD says ‘The way technology is constantly transforming what is possible means the opportunities for designers are increasing all the time. Enlightened is a great way of giving some superb designers the chance to push their creative limits.’
The show features work by other designers including Raid71, Sawdust and Daniel Heath.
There’s certainly a huge variety of executions on show. We’re rather impressed with Wilkinson’s Disney Princess-esque chair:
And the cute typography-led pieces by Sawdust:
As well as this brilliant, yet perhaps rather constrictive, foxy latex catsuit creation:
Enlightened runs until 8 March at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre, County Way, Barnsley S70
