Pancake Panic

Sometimes it is possible to witness a feat of human endeavour that shows such dogged determination and personal sacrifice that it is truly breathtaking.

When Sam Cox The Doodle Man sent us this five-second film Pancake Panic celebrating Shrove Tuesday we wanted to know more.

It turns out that the whole project took him two weeks and that the time-lapse video comprises 50 individual photographs, each taken around two hours from the next.

First Cox used paper to white out an entire kitchen (hopefully his own) and then set to work, doodling over every inch of every surface, even doodling himself an outfit. And doodling over a spatula. And doodling over a pancake. Just imagine what the rest of the house is like.

“The toaster and kettle were tricky to draw on to as they had to remain still throughout the period I was taking photos,” Cox says.

“Awkward areas like that proved difficult to cover but were achievable although they did cause aching arms.”

Cox adds: “I wanted to create a project themed around Pancake Day as I thought it’s quite a fun theme for me to work with. Also, I enjoy dressing as a chef even though I lack cooking skills.”

And there was us thinking the film is a comment on self-examination and repentance before Lent.
