The boy in the oak
Jessica Albarn, illustrator and author of children’s book The Boy In The Oak, is adapting her novel into a short film narrated by Jude Law with a soundtrack by brother Damon Albarn.
Artwork from Albarn’s book will be shown in an exhibition on 18 January at Foyles Gallery on London’s Charing Cross Road, W1, and the film is expected to launch in Spring 2011.
The book itself, which is now published through Simply Read Books, uses opaque layers of acetate bound alongside illustrated pages.
Rooted in fairytale, the story is a young boy’s journey of discovery after happening across an enchanted oak tree.
The film will see illustration, animation and live action brought together and has been directed by Luke Losey – best known for directing Orbital’s The Box video.
The Boy In The Oak runs from18 January at Foyles Gallery on Charing Cross Road, London W1.
