Inside Design with Bill Amberg

London’s Great Western Studios is kicking off a series of exhibitions that will look at the process, development and craft of design projects.

The Inside Design series will see the gallery work with different designers, who will take over exhibition space to show their work and explain the processes behind it.

Kicking off the series is Bill Amberg, who will tell the stories of five designs in leather – a bike, a floor, a desk, a bag, and a Japanese collectible.

As well as showing these projects, which will include a Charge bicycle with leather saddle, handle-bars, pedals and mud-flaps, Amberg will also be displaying needles, threading wax, and other tools of the leather design trade.

A member of Amberg’s studio will be on hand at the private view and talks to demonstrate how to hand-stitch leather, and there will also be photographs and videos of design development and production.

The Inside Design series will continue with Bethan Gray, in May, while Pearson Lloyd will take over the gallery in September, and will create a new installation for its show.

Inside Design with Bill Amberg Studio runs from 21 February-6 March at Great Western Studios, 65 Alfred Road, London W2.
