Lomography goes digital
Analogue aesthetes Lomography have done the unthinkable and gone digital with this smartphone film-scanning hardware.
Lomography was up until now known entirely for its innovative analogue cameras, its cultish hipster following, (The Lomographic Society) and a blurry photographic world of double exposure, graininess and slide film.
The Lomography Smartphone film Scanner, which has been funded through Kickstarter, is a device for scanning, editing and sharing 35mm film across social media and email by hooking your phone up to it.
This allows you to convert all types of 35mm film including colour negatives, black and white negatives and slides, or stitch together panoramas and carry out basic editing, including animating LomoKino stills.
Thankfully people have stopped calling this kind of innovation ‘post-digital,’ (digital getting its hands dirty in the real world) – it just seems like a good idea.
To make it all happen, turn on the scanner back light, insert your negative and ‘take a photo’ with your smart phone, before using the app to edit.
It is iPhone and Android compatible, powered by two AA batteries, measures 14x7x13cm, weighs 244 grams and will cost around £37 when it is launched in March.
