We aren’t the champions

The World Cup is over and although the Tour de France is doing a good job of filling our lunch-time sports cravings here at Design Week, it doesn’t feel quite the same.

It’s not just the goals and enthusiasm for our Panini sticker album that we miss, but the efforts from a number of creatives to produce football-related fun during the competition.

One such example was Cog Design’s Cog Cup, which saw the consultancy, its friends and clients and two members of Design Week’s news desk inexplicably grow mullets and facial hair to represent their given country in the footie sweepstake.

Last night the winners, and extreme losers, were awarded their prizes at Cog’s indoor garden party, which was complete with fake grass, water fountain and its very own gnome – called Dave by the way.

News editor Angus Montgomery was awarded a completed Esso England medal collection for drawing quarter finalists Paraguay. Lumbered with Australia, I was awarded a Peperami fanimal, which maddeningly shouts meat-related abuse when bashed – appropriate considering Australia’s handful of red cards.

The Cog team deserve a  pat on the back, not only for taking their sweepstake to new levels of amusing Photoshop-ery, but for the relaxing haven they’ve created in their office. With the soothing sound of the water fountain, in-house fish, pool table and woodland murals, it was a challenge to leave. Roll on Euro 2012.
