Batman celebrates 75th anniversary with new logo

DC Comics is launching a new Batman logo to mark the Caped Crusader’s 75th birthday.

The new commemorative logo takes its cue from the famous Bat symbol and features block-style ’75 years lettering’. It will be used on Batman-related promotions, products and initiatives throughout the year.

DC will also be releasing a series of new Batman titles, commemorative issues and variant covers, to mark Batman’s first appearance in 1939. It will also be hosting the Cape/Cowl/Create exhibition in San Francisco in July, in which artists will create their own interpretations of Batman’s cape and cowl.

Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27, which was published on 30 March 1939. The book featured artwork by Bob Kane and a script by Bill Finger.

The character has gone on to star in feature films, TV shows, radio, video games, publishing and merchandise.

Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment, says,  ‘Batman is one of the greatest characters ever created, in comics or elsewhere, and even after 75 years he continues to wildly fascinate fans.

‘He is an integral part of pop culture and has successfully captured the imagination of the entire world.’
