50 covers of D&AD

To mark its 50th anniversary this year, D&AD is releasing its 2012 annual with 50 different covers.

Fifty artists and designers have been brought in to create the covers, including Quentin Blake, Richard Seymour, Paula Scher and Derek Birdsall, while the project has been art-directed by Michael Johnson and outgoing D&AD president Rosie Arnold.

A limited edition run of 1500 books will be available featuring a pack of all 50 covers printed as dustjackets, while a composite image is printed on the hard-back covers.

 The standard edition, which is available from Taschen priced at £34.99, will feature a dustjacket by Dave Dye, and all 50 covers printed inside.

D&AD says it has continued with the sustainability principles it put in place for last-year’s annual, with the annual again being printed in Italy using 100 per cent recycled Austrian paper.

In a drive to raise money for the newly announced D&AD Foundation ten of the original cover artworks – by Quentin Blake, Rankin, Nick Park, Neville Brody and others, will be auctioned of 3 December.
